Most people feel ambivalent about beginning therapy. By now, you might feel fairly uncomfortable and frustrated, realizing that the friendly advice, the self-help books and web articles, and all of your existing coping mechanisms and activities have not been working for you. You want relief and results as soon as possible.
I take a supportive, collaborative, and persistent approach to encourage you to build insight and capacity for coming up with new endings for the same old stories in your life, so that you can feel and function better now. I use the information that you present (or, in some instances, avoid) to help you make sense of the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that undermine your relationships and productivity. The therapy process should be more than just interesting, I believe.--It must be a fully engaging experience that results in a real sense of growth and change, evident even within the first two or three sessions.
